A Man Of Many Guises

We've just booked Luke Vibert aka Kerrier Dirstrict aka Wagon Christ aka The Ace of Clubs aka Butler Kiev for an edition of the Mister in June. He hasn't played in NY since Justin booked him for his Hello Nurse! party way back in the day. Needless to say we're very excited!

  1. Will he get to play more than 2 hours? You guys always play waaaaay longer than your guests we are paying to see. Not cool

  2. Hey, Anonymous.

Mister Saturday Night is not the typical party where Eamon and I act as promoters to bring in a "headlining" DJ. There are plenty of these kinds of parties happening, and we're trying to create something different. The party is about an overall experience that goes from the door to the bar to the space to us as residents to the guests.

We invite people to play alongside us because we respect them as folks who will contribute to the overall vibe of the night. All that said, it's rare to have any guest play at any party for more than two hours. That's pretty much been par for the course for as long as I've been DJing or booking DJs.

At any rate, I don't expect that you or anyone else would do the same thing if a party were in your hands, but it's important to us do it this way. We don't want to be another talent-driven party that relies on bookings to make it successful. By doing things the way we've done them, we've been able to grow a community around the parties that's not reliant on guests, which we think makes the overall vibe much better. It's the way we've done it since the beginning and the way we'll continue to do it.

I hope this sheds some light on the way we do things, and I hope you'll continue to come and, with all that in mind, enjoy yourself. The idea is to include as many people as possible – certainly not to exclude them.

    Best,

    Justin
