Introducing Mister Sunday

We've been keeping this one under our hats for a while, but the time has come to spill the beans. In just over a month, on Memorial Day Weekend, we're introducing Mister Sunday, the outdoor, Sunday afternoon spinoff of Mister Saturday Night. Clever name, we know.

If you ever came to Sunday Best at BKLYN Yard, you'll know the place: it's the same canal-side, tree-spotted plot of land at 400 Carroll Street between Bond and Nevins in Brooklyn, now rechristened Gowanus Grove.

If you never made it down, let us count the ways you're going to love it. First, kids and dogs – you can bring them. We love them, and we don't get to see enough of them on Saturday nights. Second, superb food – we're teaming up with Brooklyn Flea to install a small but ace team of food vendors. Right now, we've confirmed Mile End, who will be serving a bunch of stuff you can't get at the storefront in Boerum Hill, and we're soon to confirm at least one more. Third, our friends from Botanica, the best little bar in the five boroughs, are taking care of the booze.

And last, but certainly not least, is the music. The Mister Saturday Night residents, Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin, the gents that pull the strings to bring it all together, will be playing records each and every Sunday through the summer on the big, blue soundsystem. There'll be guests alongside them occasionally as well. Moodymann, Todd Terje, Horse Meat Disco, Optimo, and Space Dimension Controller will all take their turns, and on opening day, Four Tet will drop by.

And that's all there is to say about that. We'll see you outside.

A Man Of Many Guises

We've just booked Luke Vibert aka Kerrier Dirstrict aka Wagon Christ aka The Ace of Clubs aka Butler Kiev for an edition of the Mister in June. He hasn't played in NY since Justin booked him for his Hello Nurse! party way back in the day. Needless to say we're very excited!

Two of Two

And now we take on the Herculean task of trying to throw a party as good as last week's. Wish us luck.

By the way, this one's going to be at 12-Turn-13 instead of 341 Scholes. We just made the call to switch it up. See the right column for the full details and a map.

Round One of Two

Can you believe it's been a month? We've missed you. The longing is over this weekend in a very big way, though. It's the first of a Mister Saturday Night two-Saturday doubleheader. For this one, Justin's returning home to play alongside Eamon, Caribou's joining the festivities, and the big, blue soundsystem is already plugged in and warmed up.

Tickets for this and next weekends' parties are on sale here. We've sold a lot for this weekend already, and even though we're at a pretty big space (location details to the right) there's a chance that we might fill up, so if you're sure you want to come, it's a good idea to purchase in advance. Otherwise, RSVP, and get there early!

On The Ground In Berlin, Part Two: Berghain and Panorama Bar

This is it, folks. The modern world's mecca of dance music: Berghain and Panorama Bar. Pretty much anyone in Berlin that I've talked to knows the place, whether or not they're involved in music and whether or not they've actually been inside. One reason might be that in a city with an unemployment rate that is almost twice the rest of the country's average, people see the club and the culture it represents as a force for tourism and therefore the economy. Or maybe they just hear the bass from their apartments.

No matter what, it's been high on my list of things to do since I got here (second only to the Boros Gallery), and so I've taken a couple occasions to check it out, the first about a month ago when Ame and Dixon played on a Sunday night, and the second when Omar S played this past Friday.

Fertile Times: An Interview with Caribou

The man behind the moniker Caribou is Dan Snaith. As you're no doubt aware by now, he's DJing with us this weekend as Mister Saturday Night returns after a longer than planned break.

We've been chatting with him on email for the past week or so in anticipation of the party. It was a pleasure to hear that he knew all about us and what we do, and he's clearly enthused and looking forward to the gig.

He kindly agreed to answer a few questions to help whet your appetite for this coming Saturday.
